Our Story
The Pumpkin Pie Kids story began with my mom and her passion for creating. When her first grandchildren were born, she was inspired to design and sew her own children’s clothing line, Pumpkin Pie Designs. She created her own patterns, cut and sewed each unique reversible piece, and sold her creations at craft shows including the Filberg Festival and Circle Craft.
My mom and I shared a dream of creating and designing together. It started In the early 1980s, together we began designing and making bodysuits for aerobics, selling them at local craft markets.
In 1992, my mom opened her first retail store in Nanaimo, bringing her own creations together with wonderful children’s brands. My husband, our kids, and I relocated to Nanaimo, and I joined her on this exciting adventure.
It wasn’t long before the next generation showed signs of the family’s creative spirit. My daughter loved designing and creating with her grandma, and I knew she had inherited the fashion and design gene when, at a young age, she made herself a pair of flip-flops to wear!
Today, we no longer create our own clothing line. Instead, we use that same passion and experience to carefully curate the best children’s clothing, footwear, toys, and other products available, both in our store and online.
My mom is now happily retired, and my daughter, after earning her Bachelor of Design, has gone on to pursue her own career.
Three generations, one family passion, and more than 30 years of creating memories with Nanaimo families. We’re proud to continue the Pumpkin Pie Kids story.

For over 30 years, Pumpkin Pie Kids has been Nanaimo’s go-to specialty children’s store, proudly serving local families since 1992. We’re proud to be a family-owned Canadian business rooted in the beautiful community of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
We carefully choose every product we carry with families in mind. From clothing and footwear to toys and everyday essentials, we look for items that are safe, high quality, ethically made, thoughtfully designed, and encourage healthy play, learning, and growth.
Whether you’re looking for children’s clothing and outerwear, footwear, lunch gear, toys, or something special for a little one, we’re here to help. We offer swimwear and rainwear year-round, so you can find what your kids need for Vancouver Island’s ever-changing weather.
We’re also proud to carry a wonderful selection of plush toys, including the much-loved Jellycat collection—perfect for gifting, celebrating milestones, or simply bringing a little extra joy.
